Last 6 April we set up an information booth at the Ciudad Universitaria Agroecological Fair as part of the Food Wave
project. The aim of this project is to raise awareness among young Europeans about the importance of sustainable consumption and improving their eating habits via a series of dynamic activities which also involve their friends, family members and acquaintances.
The aim of this event was to raise awareness among young people and adults about sustainable production and consumption from an all-inclusive perspective, one committed not only to organic and local businesses, but which also takes into consideration the whole model of production and transport all the way to the final waste treatment.
Representing the different stakeholders involved, the event had several institutional information tents (with informative material) plus other stands to sell and taste products. Numerous activities were also carried out, such as workshops (composting, hydroponic gardening and sustainable tapas), a parade and an obstacle race with a prize of organically produced food.
One of the tents that attracted the greatest number and interest among the attendees was that of the “With the R for…” information team, which gave instructions to over 700 people about how to correctly separate and manage urban waste, and the changes we can make in our daily lives to reduce the waste we produce and avoid food waste.
All those who came to our booth were presented with a kit for easier separation of organic matter, consisting of a 10-litre aerated bucket, waste separation guides and other informative material.
Thanks to all the participants, the agents involved and the diverse nature of the activities, at the end of the day we succeeded in demonstrating that our lifestyle and diet not only have an impact on our health, but also on the conservation of the planet.
Remember… your actions are much more powerful than you think!
